Wise Leaders
Leadership habits shape the face of culture in the workplace. In fact, the key to practicing daily wisdom is embracing a habit. Here are some good habits:
- A wise leader pays attention well.
This leader leans into conversations instinctively. In fact, the smart leader almost never talks! - A wise leader seeks counsel not advice.
Leaders need someone in their lives that care about them and have an eye out for their future. - Wise leaders embrace criticism.
Yes, criticism, if constructive, is difficult to embrace. There are three (3) triggers that make criticism hard to hear. They are:- The Truth Trigger. The listener corrects the criticizer. “You don’t know that about me.”
- The Relationship Trigger. The listener discounts the criticizer. “You don’t have the right to tell me anything.”
- The Identity Trigger. The listener has feelings of inadequacy. “I’m not good enough and I certainly do not feel valued.”
As a wise leader, it is not what you say that decides your culture; it is what you allow to happen. Wise leaders define their culture.
Please take some time with your team today to discuss some of the leadership habits you have embraced.
Enjoy the summer!
